I have three beautiful West German made Brass Loupes that are local to Delaware. They would use these in the Joseph Bancroft and Sons Factory. They would inspect the thread when they would go through the dying process. Two of these are from BANCROFT MILL and the other one is from Joanna Book Cover Material factory. You can use these to look at diamonds too. Basically a pocket size magnifier. These can also be used to inspect diamonds and other precious gems. The Germans are known for making precision optical magnifying lenses even today.
